Boomkat Product Review:
Minimalist and Raster boss Frank Bretschneider pollenates electronics and jazz on his first collaboration with Italian trumpeter and composer Giorgio Li Calzi.
Frank Bretschneider is responsible for some of the most relentlessly forward thinking minimal electronic music of the era: faultless sets like "Curve" and Komet albums "Rausch" and "Gold" still sound like little else. He's still peeking into parts unknown, here meshing his patented electroplated glitches with jaunty trumpet trills from Wolfgang Flür and Arto Lindsay collaborator Giorgio Li Calzi.
Li Calzi is no stranger to electronic music, he's long been involved with the outer realms of improvisation and experimentation, working alongside Turin's Audio Hacklab and performing with Marconi Union. Here his trumpet plays an equal role alongside Bretschneider's rolling percussion, steering through cheerful moods without interrupting the stark minimalism. It's an unexpected collision but not an unwelcome one.
