Z (aka Bernard Szajner) presents Visions of Dune
**Reissue edition remastered by Rashad at Clunk** Infiné surpass themselves with this prime reissue of a sought-after late '70s synth masterpiece by French laser-harp pioneer, Bernard Szajner. 'Visions Of Dune' (1979) is Szajner's concept album influenced by Frank Herbert's cult sci-fi trilogy of 'Dune' books (it's *not* the OST for David Lynch's film adaptation). Taking cues from the trilogy's tangled web of epic power struggles, otherworldly witchcraft and dystopian sci-fi themes, it's every bit as dramatic, out-of-this-world as you'd hope for, and rightly hailed a major underground classic by Carl Craig, who assisted Infiné with contacting Bernard for this reissue. Originally arriving in 1979, at the end of a decade in which Szajner was responsible for rigging the legendary light shows of Gong, Magma, Pierre Henri, Olivier Messiaen and The Who, it's a synaesthetically psychedelic experience landing at the cusp of kosmische, prog, avant-garde electronics and proto-techno - a free-moving, mind-kissing swirl of chromatic spectrums, sprawling drones and microcosmic chaos. Even the new bonus tracks are excellent, well ahead of their time - just check the incredible, etheric sound design of 'The Duke', or 'Spice' for proof. No doubt it's all been subtly enhanced by Rashad's remaster, but the original material was a rare, near-mythical substance to start with. Highly recommended.
