Boomkat Product Review:
Cokiyu’s ‘Your Thorn’ emerged at the end of last year and was a lush take on Japanese pop music, so it seems only proper that the album gets the full remix treatment. And what a bumper collection of remixes this is, with a mammoth seventeen tracks to boot. The highlight for me is the rare appearance of Opiate, who weighs in with a bass-heavy rework of ‘Round in Fog’, exploring the outer limits of dub and touching on a near-jungle flavor that is nowhere near as at-odds with the original track as you might think. Elsewhere Shigeto throws out a winning beat-heavy glacial dancefloor edit of ‘Drag the Bears’ and Tokyo Bloodworm dissolves ‘Little Waves’ into a slow-motion soup of haunting vocals and half-heard percussion. Even CCO-alums Remote Viewer show up for the party, and give us a reminder of why we fell in love with their music in the first place. Well good.
