Boomkat Product Review:
Pearlescent and marbled passages of processed sine waves and sampled wind by Danish sound artist øjeRum, on first solo manoeuvres with Lawrence English’s label
A prolific producer behind dozens of albums for the likes of Line, Opal Tapes, and Vaknar, over the past decade, Paw Grabovski aka øjeRum here focusses on glacial, oneiric ambient minimalism for his fully fledged so debut with Room 40.
Across the trio of durational parts he coaxes and caresses fronds of synthetically processed instrumental gestures into chiming and sensitively sculpted structures that appear to float in mid air. ‘Portrait of the Green Twilight’ evokes a shaken snow globe in slow motion with its gentle tableaux of descending, pitch bent notes and harmonic whorls; ‘The Breath Wavers From the Earth’s Ear’ decanters the focus to spellbinding timbral shifts with a much more melancholic appeal; ’Tomorrow we Commemorate the Falling Leaves’ conures imagery of a still, frozen garden in the dead of night, like a lingering after-impression of Tor Lundvall’s xmas ambient music.
