Boomkat Product Review:
Gary Wilson's debut album 'You Think You Really Know Me' is a deeply disturbing masterpiece from the glowing grey area between late '70s American punk, funk and disco. Over the last 10 years or so we've become slowly acquainted with Gary's tortured, awkward world via reissues of his later music from Stones Throw and Human Ear Music, but inarguably this is the most shocking, intimate glimpse into his psyche we've yet been exposed to. Mixing sickly, angular funk with experimental electronics and deeply personal lyrics about lust, unrequited love and, frankly, f**k knows what, all delivered in that too-close-for-comfort style of his, it makes us feel incredibly strange and somehow enlightened all at once. To attempt to describe it any further may dilute the surprise, but we can assure you we've NEVER heard anything quite so oddly compelling. A massive recommendation for the freaks.
