Bushman's Revenge is a trio led by Even Helte Hermansen, whose name might be familiar to you from his work as part of Nordic prog-fusionists The Shining, themselves notable contributors to the Rune Grammofon roster. Opening with a stunning stoner rock riff, You Lost Me At Hello makes an introduction that fully contrasts its Jerry Maguire-aping title. It hooks you into a primal metal sound world that hardly prepares you for the free-improv shredfest that's to follow. Were it not for the fuzz-pedal rawness of the album's sound you'd be forgiven for thinking that during 'Ginsberg' you were listening to one of those albums that only ever gets mentioned in guitar magazine. In fact at various points during Bushman's Revenge (particularly the detuned 'No Sleep 'till Hammerfest') you'd be entirely justified in comparing this to something like Steve Vai's 'Bad Horsie'. The fusion of low end metal and merciless soloing is highly enjoyable throughout, and the musicianship is top notch, taking on enough of a jazz influence to keep the Rune Grammofon regulars on-side. Recommended.
