Boomkat Product Review:
I do sometimes wonder when this kind of retro ‘idm’ will finally die out, it’s been threatening to for a while now I’m sure of it. What with Autechre turning to more experimental ventures and Warp records fleeing toward the indie market with Maximo Park holding the standard, there’s hardly a place left for indistinct blippy electronica anymore is there? Someone needs to let Miles Tilmann know then, as ‘Yes and No’ is pure electronica – we’ve got soft ambient tracks, pulsing drum machine led tracks, dancier retro electro styled pieces and clipped Merck-esque idm hiphop. It's all impeccably produced and rather lovely, but there’s something distinctly uninteresting about the whole affair, maybe we’ve all moved on now – and if this album had been released 7 years ago it would have been a classic, or maybe not. I’ll go for no.
