Boomkat Product Review:
The classic cut from FSOL’s ‘Dead Cities’ LP serves inspiration for the variegated new suite of ‘Yage 2019’
In Brian Dougan and Gaz Cobain’s own words “Yage 2019 takes the core of the original and rebuilds it.” The result is a spiralling side of 11 asymmetric parts, firstly luring the original into lush green pastures in the 2019 mix, before astral winds whip up the arpeggiated helix of ‘Floating Into Focus and Then Moving Away’, snagging on the crooked breakbeats of ‘The Purged’ and the cypberpunky big beat of ‘Yage (Rhodesia) / Insulin.’
Some passable detours into dubbed out psych rock occur deeper in, but the final run from ‘Slowly Stumbled’ thru the skittish Humanoid rebuild of ‘The People Of Yage’ and the warped vision of ‘Yage Sunset Strip’ surely rescue it from the brink. Safe tripping folks.
