Boomkat Product Review:
Don of the moment, Nick León fuses raptor house’s Eurohouse influence on a pair of zingers b/w strong remixes by Pearson Sound and Doctor Jeep
Arriving in the wake of his high grade EPs with Florentino’s Club Romántico, Naafi, and Future Times, León jumps back to Colombia’s Tra Tra Trax with two proper heaters for ’22. In ‘Xtasis’ we hear him emphasise the eurohouse rave inspirations that fed into Venezuela’s homegrown raptor house sound (as catalysed by DJ Baba and found on Florentino’s recent mixtape) and has since spilled into Latin American club culture, lacing his brisk tresillo techno rhythms with Latin diva stabs and keys that work a treat, whereas ‘Grito’ takes license to slip along darker liens of warehouse-ready dembow donk.
Pearson Sound proves an ideal connate to remix ‘Xtasis’ with his precision-tooled trills and slinky flow faithful to the original flex, while Brooklyn’s Doctor Jeep resets ‘Grito’ to a robotic dembow bogle and doble paso ballistics.
