Boomkat Product Review:
The Concretes are all but unrecognisable from the band that first stole hearts with their sublime 2003 debut. The departure of erstwhile frontwoman Victoria Bergsman (currently to be found recording under the alias Taken By Trees) undoubtedly has much to do with the change, but even taking that into consideration it'd be hard to have imagined this previously Velvet Underground and Motown inspired combo embracing the minimal, organic disco sounds of cuts like 'My Ways' and 'All Day'. These sorts of flighty pop confections suit The Concretes v2.0 rather well though, and thanks to the vocals of Lisa Milberg the band retain their ear for cloudy melancholy. Some hints at former glories arrive in the form of the excellent slow jam, 'Oh My Love' whilst the catchy, downbeat four-to-the-floor antics of the title track close the album on a confident note that only reinforces the notion that the band's reinvention has paid off.
