Boomkat Product Review:
Four years on from the acclaimed 'Holkham Drones', Luke Abbott smudges deeper with this sublime sophomore LP. Titled in tribute to the Cambridge-based arts centre, 'Wysing Forest' feels more abstract than its predecessor, offering a bold but friendly challenge to those who simply wanted more of the same. To be fair it's not radically removed, but there are strong echoes of early radiophonic experimentation and a looser, noisier, ecstatically free-form approach to arrangement that unpredictably toys with our sense of anticipation and gratification. It's mixed as a play-through listen, each track segueing into the next, from the celestial sighs of 'Two Degrees', thru 12 minutes of modular roil in 'Amphis' to the careening momentum of 'Highrise', via soaring pads and soured bleeps in 'Tree Spirit' and the resting space of melting eldritch ambient contours of 'Amphis (Reprise)'. By any measure, it's an impressively sculpted and realised work, well recommended to romantic trance heads and kosmische travellers.
