Boomkat Product Review:
Step forward Tim Wright and Chairman Weatherall for remixes of the blinding Dive and Lie Wrecked 12” from Radioactive Man. You will be hearing a lot more from Tim Wright in the near future, 2 x 12”s released on Novamute have gained Tim a reputation among producers and techno fans alike for his infectious breed of techno and (dare I say it...) 2-step. Here Radioactive man steps in to enlist him for a bass heavy workout of ‘Ave that’ , and straight into the swing beat he goes, and what could possibly be added? Why a full on monster bassline that Drum’n’bass producers spent years trying to achieve. Using searing synths as backing, 909 percussion for the techy edge and a So Solid Crew cheekiness to pull of what is one hell of a remake, extra large with cream. Let us now bow to the Chairman, 2 mixes are delivered from the head of the board, and crushing little numbers they are. We’ve been waiting for Mr Weatherall to turn his hand to the 4/4 again, and here we have a double helping. ‘Night bus to Nowhere’ is reshaped twice, the first slinks in subtly until the throbbing bass arrives accompanied by a plethora of digitized noises that zip around the beats, helped by a cheeky little acid riff and backed by a Tech-House throb that belies the true nature of the bassline, rough! Secondly Mr Weatherall drops a cleaner rub, using a clear, almost early Warp bassline to flow smoothly around the groove and it makes the mix slightly more relaxed than it’s predecessor, yet the reverbs and noises are a tad deeper, a mix for the head as well as the feet. Ace.
