Boomkat Product Review:
Following their ‘Sunchoke’ album, Gi Gi returns to Good Morning Tapes with a gorgeous mixtape of simmering 90’s shoegaze, dreampop and drift music, on a tip that will leave you feeling blissed to fuck. Aye, its a special one.
Yeah this one’s as tight as anything, programmed for the good of yr spiritual wellbeing, nothing too obvious, all of it sounding like it was stripped bare and re-assembled with the same component parts for a resolutely captivating 90 minute session that reminds us of the first time we listened to The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa, or maybe that AFX x Seefeel hookup, played at -8, tripped out our minds.
Even if you usually sneer at overly slick mixing, here it multiplies the mood in a way you just can’t argue with, every turn soft and padded, sometimes drifting into simmering post punk, then ambient dub, but always lulled back into a sort of hazed amniotic state where we can no longer remember which tunes were already familiar, and which were pulled out the aether.
A supremely enjoyable, deep hang this one.
