Boomkat Product Review:
Wolfram, jetsetting DJ and CEO of the Diskokaine label - home to Sally Shapiro's best output - offers his eponymous debut LP. His maximalist modus operandi leaves little to the imagination, but done well, this can be a brilliant thing, manifesting in a veritable who's who of Disco/House celebrity cameos from Sally Shapiro, Hercules & Love Affair, Haddaway (!), Legowelt, and Patrick Pulsinger. 'Wolfram' taps into the latent spirit of Italo Disco and hedonistic '90s Euro House with a deep understanding and reverence for the sounds subtleties. The bespoke vocal appearances are intrinsically measured, from Haddaway's yearning '90s croon set to smudged trance chords on 'Thing Called Love', to Andy Butler and Kim Ann Foxman's duet amidst the Amyl Nitrate fog of 'Fireworks' and the genuine NRG of Paul Parker, former Patrick Cowley collaborator, on the haughty throb of 'Out Of Control'. The instrumentals are none too shabby either, whether shooting for the heart with the fluttering synths of 'Roshi', entering the back-door disco with Patrick Pulsinger on 'Teamgeist' or slow-mo hi-5s with Legowelt on 'So Fine All The Time'. In case you can't tell, we're quite smitten with the sincerity and execution of this album, hence the warmest recommendations to discerning disco heads everywhere!
