Boomkat Product Review:
"Wir Sind Hier" (‘We Are Here’) is Marz’s follow-up to their hugely acclaimed 2002 début "Love Streams" on Karaoke Kalk. It's an album that displays the shimmering songwriting ability of Albrecht Kunze and Ekkehard Ehlers beautifully, at once more ambitious and more heartfelt than anything the pair have been previously involved in. The manifesto is clear - adapt joyous pop sensibilities into a kind of heartwarming, glorious home-listening experience that's just as comfortable with campfire folk as it is with crunchy house rhythms - spanning the spectrum in search of that unknown factor that makes certain songs so sugarsweet memorable. The fact that both Kunze and Ehlers have such a dispersed and varied musical background propels each of these 11 songs into a slightly more knowing dimension - never taking the expected route, always drawing on one obscure musical discipline or another to make this overtly accessible and open music display it's charm in ever-surprising ways. Like one of those pictures that changes depending on the angle from which you look at it, a conceit that's telling of these particularly rewarding musical times. Lovely.
