Boomkat Product Review:
*The original album plus a bonus disc of remixes feat Not Moving, Ghosting Season, Kate Wax and more* Sam Willis takes a minute out from Walls to further explore a gorgeous personal vision of kosmic disco-tech. A solo endeavour of this sort has been some time coming from Sam who, aside from his Snoretex 12", has always been inseparable from duos. 'Winterval' possibly feels lighter, more expressive because of this, working with wonderfully aerated grooves and melodically layered arrangements which unfold with a dreamy quality. From the top 'Hello Wendy' comes off like an '80s movie dream sequence, all burbling rhythms and pink-hued soft-focus, a mood no doubt also hinted at in the woozy disco move 'Weird Science', while the posh-trance lift of 'Foxglissandro' and the gravity-defying, free standing structure 'Frozen/Cirrus' swoon around nocturnal Berlin head spaces. '140 Miles' is a blissfully detached pause for reflection, sandwiching the lush trance strokes of 'Seven Down Six Across' and the shoegazing sway of 'Winterval' with the dark contrast of 'Twirled With Your Slight Fingers', as though leaving the story open for a sequel.
