Originally released in 1986, 'Wie das Wispern des Windes' is a lesser-heard solo piano album from Cluster/Harmonia's Hans-Joachim Roedelius - one for fans of Eno's '80s gear, or Gonzales' 'Solo Piano'.
In 1981, Cluster - by then a duo of Dieter Moebius and Roedelius - went on hiatus, leaving Roedelius to focus on his solo material. He proceeded to explore the new age genre, releasing a bundle of records that cast his keyboard playing in a fresh light, ignoring the heavy processing and psychedelia of the Cluster/Harmonia days.
Roedelius recorded 'Wie das Wispern des Windes' between 1983 and 1986, using only the piano and pre-empting the interest in spartan solo piano music a few decades later. Listening now it's surprisingly pretty, interrupting lush, baroque phrases with ambient-adjacent improvisations that place it neatly alongside Brian Eno's 'Thursday Afternoon'. Quite lovely.
