Boomkat Product Review:
The very notion of a folk super-group this time ten years ago would have conjured up images of damp Arran jumpers and too many beards - but not any more, with the rehabilitation of the genre complete it's now the kind of thing that spikes real interest beyond the real ale club. Comprising Stephen Cracknell, Nancy Wallace and Jennymay Logan, The Memory Band also draft in the services of Adem on this new single released to flag up the forthcoming LP ‘Apron Strings’. Easing themselves in with the gorgeous 'Why?', the classic Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards' penned number (famously covered by Carly Simon) is given a utterly poignant treatment that mixes just the right amount of melancholy into the sweet strings and tender guitar to give it a genuine emotional bite. Backing this up is ‘Come Write Me Down’, wherein Adem comes joins the crew for a track that ups the percussive elements to create a thrumming folk gem. Remember!
