Boomkat Product Review:
Monotonix first became a part of the Drag City universe when they appeared as a support act for Silver Jews during their 2006 tour of Israel. Two years later they were signed to the same label, having released the Body Language EP, but now comes the first full-length proper from the band, written in Midtown New Orleans and recorded with Tim Green of the Fucking Champs in San Francisco. First and foremostly Monotonix are a good-time, rampaging party-metal band, but with a raw, alternative edge that keeps them exciting. Across tracks like 'Flesh And Blood', 'I Cant Take It Anymore' and the punishing 'Spit It On Your Face' the band plough through low, dirtied-up riffs and wailing, pre-punk hard rock with great aplomb, winding down only towards the end when they start to let some sensitivity in via 'As Noise', and the unexpectedly haunting, ballad-shaped 'Hunt You Down'.
