Boomkat Product Review:
Nathan (brother of Mathew) Jonson presents his debut album proper on the celebrated Wagon Repair imprint. 'Where Did You Go' follows ten years of idiosyncratic releases mashing techno with electro and house music in a restless IDM framework to arrive at a nexus of ideas made for the floor and headphones alike. 'Cause I Love You' opens with a nod to AFX's recent Analord transmissions while 'Own Risk' flickers between hardcore breaks, Detroit electro and techno signatures with a bold coherance. There's punchy electro to be found in 'Claustraneonia' and quickstepping experimentalism in 'Home' while the ace 'Captivated Heart' strongly reminds of his brother's melodic techno approach and the crafty construction of 'Closed Eyes' could have come from a Rephlex record. The breadth of scope and execution is impressive and creates a space for disparate styles and ideas to comfortably coexist with just the right amount of electronic friction.
