Boomkat Product Review:
Still best known for their advert-soundtracking cut 'Hummingbird', Born Ruffians return to Warp with a brand new batch of material, spearheaded by this catchy little number. Compared to 'Hummingbird's all-round brazenness, 'What To Stay' is a relatively understated single, instead getting under the skin in by stealth. The vocals sound a little as if they've taken some inspiration from labelmate Jamie Lidell's soulful delivery, albeit with a slightly more cartoonish tone. The tightened-up rhythm section is suggestively funky in all the right ways too, elevating the piece beyond the usual semi-ballad, slow jam terrain. B-side 'Plinky Plonk' is a little more fun, bringing to mind a slightly more casual and laidback Vampire Weekend.
