Boomkat Product Review:
The looseness and sample friction of DJ Jay R’s We Turning Up recalls the same feelings when we encountered DJ Nate’s footwork for the first time, and time has told us you don’t ignore those sensations.
Where too much footwork has slipped into a masculine, linear formula, We Turning Up deals in lip—biting feminine pressure with a deft sense of momentum and inimitable arrangements. Sorry but there’s only so many chopped-up chords a man can take in lieu of actual soul-hitting vibes.
4 Da Haters lands right on the money with pitching R&B vox and perfectly padded bass patterns; Can’t Stop The Feeling plays with classic soul samples in a refreshingly loose and spacious swing; the crisp, pizzicato synth dance and incredibly tight drum programming of Get Back proves he’s equally adept at flipping up-to-date styles; and We Turning Up makes it wickedly wavy.
