Boomkat Product Review:
Italo-Belgian duo Front De Cadeaux play to the putative qualities of ketamine and slow, psychedelic dance music on a bandy-legged batch of grubbing grooves with Parisian establishment Antinote
‘We Slowly Riot’ is Maurizio Ferrara & Hugo Sanchez’s debut album as F2D after some half dozen singles and remixes for the likes of Tapan and Mugwump in the past decade or so. An abbreviated cut of their 2018 single ‘La Ketamine’ sets the vibe with its wonky, dubbed-out bump and slurred vocals cycling into double-timed meter and toes-off-the-ground suspension, triggering a flow of ideas that unfurl their modular twirls across the molasses chug of its title tune, to more byzantine feels on ‘Slam Is Slam’, and a smart centrepiece of pendulous, acidic downstroke and smudged vox on ‘Ouvre ta Bouche’.
A subtle Fabrizio Mammarella dub of the that cut tempers the flow before ‘Climate Change’ finds its momentum like an screwed Iueke cut, and ‘Casa Gaza’ dials up the exoticism with its plangent flutes on a slow but mutable downbeat.
