Boomkat Product Review:
Italian electronic duo Giorgia Angiuli and Pierro Fragola deliver their debut album for Bpitch. This first full-length comes after only a very brief period of incubation (the project only began in the winter of 2009) but they've quickly found their feet. The album's early tracks establish a musical idiom that encompasses the bleepy, emotionally charged electro-pop of 'Don't Cross' and the processed, melancholic cello instrumental, 'Cruise Control', complete with skittering staccato beats. As the album continues you get a fuller sense of what We Love are all about: 'Even If' could almost pass for a sane version of Fever Ray, while 'Our Shapes' offers a cavernous, club-ready anthem, and 'Escape Destination' could pass for an updated version of an early effort by Bpitch boss, Ellen Allien. Perhaps there's good reason for that - apparently, Allien's Berlinette album was Angiuli's first exposure to electronic music, and it wouldn't be much of a stretch to join the evolutionary dots between that 2003 album and the genre-straddling tone of this release.
