Boomkat Product Review:
Coming in a photocopied hand-made sleeve I must say I wasn't expecting much from this ultra limited (330 copies) vinyl release, but then I actually played it. Undoubtedly the strangest thing I've heard this week it appears to have come from the fractured minds of Che Chen and Rolyn Hu and although that means little or nothing to me or likely you, the two musicians (if you can call them that) proceed over the course of five tracks make a clamorous racket of outsider folk noise. The first track sees a screaming untrained vocal erupt over lightly plucked guitar (or if you believe my fellow reviewer David, a piano) and comparisons could be drawn to Fonal artist Islaja or 5 Rue Christine's Inca Ore with their vocal led oddness. It doesn't stop here though, the voice continues to be the main focus of 'We Have Won' as it is layered, looped and effected into the darkest chasms of ambience and experimental sound, coming across like very little I've heard this week. Also of note is the duo's quite unique use of percussion, occasionally sounding like dusted breaks and occasionally sounding like all they had to hand was a kitchen full of pots and pans. Beautiful, weird and totally intense - recommended listening!
