Boomkat Product Review:
Brighton-based trio The Light Sleepers claim that We Are Gathering Dust, their debut LP, was inspired by the first season of Dawson's Creek, thankfully it doesn't sound like that - no, it's more reminiscent of the turbulence and heartbreak of season three. The album gets underway with the Pavement-influenced 'Panama' and the breezy alt. pop chug of 'The Family Lisp', before arriving at an outstanding third track: 'Heart Of The Crux' riffs like Sonic Youth covering a Strokes record, marking a peak that won't be bettered until the deft one-two of the Yo La Tengo-like 'Sandrine's Paris' and the equally good, 'Teenage Riot' inspired 'Chaperones'. The Light Sleepers feel a little as if they're a relic from another time in indie history, drawing inspiration from American alternative rock and giving it a British spin (a bit like Seafood, perhaps) - in fact, this is probably the sort of thing you might have heard on Fierce Panda or Shifty Disco when those labels were at their peak. Recommended.
