Boomkat Product Review:
Brilliant location recordings of busy Haitian street scenes turning into entrancing percussive workouts in both parts, documented by sound artist Achim Mohné and issued as his 2nd release on The Wormhole, sibling of The Tapeworm
‘Vodou’ is introduced by a number of voices surrounding the mic, before appearing to cross the street into the midst of an hypnotic drum circle and call and response vocals. Trust the groove is chuffing insanely infectious - hats off to the guy on triangle! ‘Rara’ follows with vivid recording of the eponymous festival celebration (typically during Easter Week), this time the drums are joined by woozy brass that wickedly almost keep up with the drums, but almost don’t, sending us reeling in the process. ACE!
