Boomkat Product Review:
Combining classic girl group vocal harmonies with noisy, textured shoegaze dynamics, Vivian Girls are like a meeting between Kevin Shields and Phil Spector, as filtered through the rawness of the riot grrl sound. It's the production and acutely developed sonic palette that really sets this album apart from other contemporary records inspired by the thrashy guitars and trashy melodies of punk. The application of fuzz, echo - and even some strategic use of tambourine - lends a beautiful glazed atmosphere to these songs, reframing what might otherwise be dismisssable as throwaway guitar pop outings. The overall effect is alchemical, and you'll be hooked on this snappy, perfectly proportioned album in no time. Recommended.
