Boomkat Product Review:
Club shape-shifter Wootton channels Yello, S’Express and Ability II on contrasting bombs for Optimo.
Fully attuned with prevailing currents of proto-GoaT and yielding a much-needed sensuality for clubs in ’23, the producer behind Deadboy, Holy Tongue (with Valentina Magaletti), and DBM (with Murlo), follows his Azu Tiwaline link-up with an unexpected dose of hair-kissing modal techno disco dub in both superb parts.
‘Vitus’ is a party-guaranteed killer pitched somewhere between Yello’s mid ‘80s power anthems and the kind of late ‘80s, Indian percussion and sitar-driven acid house pursued by John ‘Jalib’ Millar with Sophiya Haque as Akasa - simply deadly goods that will go to the front of our bag. ‘Libera’ on the other hand is a slower, spaced out echo of that sound edging toward the Tim Simenon or Rok and Roj remixes of Akasa, but with dubbed-out traces of Ability II’s bleep classic ‘Pressure Dub’ and the nagging kinkiness of S’Express.
Both highly effective in the right situations.
