Long overdue, but here at last, Fractal Fantasy’s introductory compilation, Visceral Minds renders 8 lucent aspects of hyper fresh, mind-expanding club music from core players, Zora Jones and Sinjin Hawke, linked up with a raft of key US and UK producers.
Originally conceived as an A/V release in symbiosis with the virtual fantasies of Cyberlight and VL-TR, the label responded to high demand for the music in summer 2015 with this debut compilation of music-only downloads which evidently stand up on their own merits.
Barcelona-based artist Zora Jones and Sinjin Hawkes (producer on Wolves from Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo) open the set with the ornate animations of VClipse twirling avian high registers and pointillist drill patter before dividing duties across the rest of the set; Hawke rolling with L.A.’s P. Morris in the sublime glyde of Ferrofluid or at a rugged rave tilt with L-Vis in Flash Alert, and doing a dramatic ballroom slammer Thunderscan with Mike Q.
Zora defines a slinkier, bottom heavy sound on her part, turning out the playful grime pressure of Moonstar beside the brassy, lurching swagger of Neutrino with Chicago’s DJ Taye, also included as a teetering, rushing VIP bonus mix.
Folder next to Janus collective, Arca, Hyperdub, Amnesia Scanner, and then run check out the rest of this crucial new label!
