Boomkat Product Review:
"Violet" follows up on Boy In Static's delightful Alien Transistor album, and finds Alexander Chen's sound moving on in leaps and bounds. This collection of electronically enhanced pop songs genuinely sounds as if the bedroom introspection of that debut has burst at the seams, becoming the shoegazing dream-pop epic Boy In Static always threatened to make. The album features a liberal use of strings, piano and rough electronic beats all wrapped-up in a gorgeous electronic package that really gives Chen's compositions an edge. Clearly Fennesz is an influence from a production point of view, but Chen is equally prone to going further back in time, drawing parallels with Jesus And Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine. Sterling work - highly recommended.
