Vibrant Forms (Reissue)
Fluxion's 1999 album for Chain Reaction, 'Vibrant Forms' stands up as one of the label's finest, up there amongst the likes of Porter Ricks' 'Biokinetics' - also reissued by Type - and über-classics from Vainqueur, Vladislav Delay and Substance.
It's a masterclass in fluid, groovewise techno reduction and atmospheric rendering which sounds as fresh and alien today as it did 15 years ago. This reissue collects both the 12" and 2x12" released by Chain reaction, plus two bonus tracks, adding up to a beautifully coherent long player that more or less defines the genre at its lushest. The all-analogue fidelity and reductionist integrity makes for nothing less than an immersive experience as you trace the lulling pulse of padded kicks through oceans of spirit-wash reverb and tape-saturated delay.
Most of the ten tracks perform that rarest of balancing acts, poised between driving, body-gratifying club music and centre-of-the-storm tranquility, at once upbeat yet static, visceral but intangible. If you've not heard this material before, you're in for a huge treat - especially if you enjoyed that recent Huerco S. album or are a fan of classic Basic Channel. Foundational stuff, highly recommended.
