Boomkat Product Review:
Young Argentinian experimental darkwave/EBM/industrial label Interplanetary introduces itself with a strong compilation revolving cuts by Penelope’s Fiance/DJ Loser duo Magdalena’s Apathy plus mutant aces by new names such as Polanski, Lunatic, Estado Critico, and Syntaxism
Working in similar terrain to Clan Destine or even contemporary Downwards, the set runs from Regis or Sleeparchive-style EBM/techno to furtive cyberpunk recce’s and stylish darkwave with that mix of Mittel European gloom and South American slink native to the Argentinian music scene.
If we’re playing favourites, look out for strong, cranky industrial styles in the noisy, romantic soreness of ‘Piece of Primal Needs’ by Magdalena’s Apathy (DJ Loser & LAE cadet, Penelope’s Fiance), or the Scorn-esque swagger of Sloven’s ‘Around Me (Clinic Cut)’, while Theorem’s ‘Depth Value’ recalls the dank dramas of Dirk Desaever and Polanski hits a fine seam of of blunted darkwave vox and agitated techno rolige in ‘But Is It’. However if you’re after more direct bangers, make sure to clock the likes of Lokodepo’s ‘Ein Wintermarchen’ and ‘Danilenko’s ‘Raskol Dushi’ for a strong lick of old skool Regis or current Sleeparchive styles, as well as the squashed and grubby techno agitation of ‘W98b’ by Syntaxism, and the scudding missile of ‘Archetyp’ by Concept Of Thrill. Special mentions to the heaving slow thrum of ‘tell Me Ture’ by Estado Critico’ and a murky beatless expression by Enot!
Dark thrills for all the techno-industrial family.
