Boomkat Product Review:
Another zinger from Barcelona's Anòmia imprint; label co-owners Ivy Barkakati and Arnau Sala make savage synth shapes and skewed EBM/coldwave rhythms as Vactor. Their self-titled debut reveals the duo's particular emphasis on soured synthetic discord, dystopian atmospheres and driving, pointillist percussion sealed with dual vocals delivered dry as bone and dealing in songs about "the creative process, personal empowerment, and overcoming obstacles." This isn't just some industrial poser gubbins - it feels rawer, but definitely not lo-fi - and with a real bristling vitality as potent as their nasal drip synth timbres and agitated rhythms, factored with an uncompromising, inclusive experimental streak exemplified in the two tracks featuring freeform sax by Mark Cunningham. Highly recommended!
