One of our favourite Berlin-based pop duos return with another of their brilliantly occasional albums for Monika Enterprise. This time round, some four years after their awesome 'Das Mandolinorchester' album, they've enlisted some serious back line talent in the form of Dinosaur Jr's J Mascis and Murph, Thurston Moore, DHR veteran Phillip Virus and Jon Spencer to whip up a frenzy of 50's rock-a-billy guitars, exotic samples and that uncanny knack for a pop loop that's always made their work so gratifying. The allstar lineup really coalesces on the raucous garage blitz 'Hang Up The Pinup', featuring our heroines sped-up and hiccuped vocals over Moore, Mascis and Murph's athletic performance buried deep in the background, taking psychobilly-key changes and abrasive industrial treatments in their stride, while on their own the pair craft ear-worming noise pop on 'Mr. Chang', tongue-in-cheek goth-pop on 'My First Parachute', martial cabaret on 'Matchy Matchy' or Lynchian 50's psyche-pop with 'The Universe Is In The Oven'. Ace.
