Arthur “Artwork” Smith’s cultishly praised Latinate techno and abstract dub shakedowns from 1997 now available on digital formats!
From a series of secret weapons released by FatCat and beloved by everyone from Demdike’s Miles Whittaker to Beatrice Dillon and Ben UFO, ‘Untitled (G3)’ contains two absolute dancefloor slayers backed with cuts that could have feasibly appeared on Vainqueur’s Chain Reaction 12”s, plus an early appearance of Arthur’s notoriously cheeky side.
The A1 and B1 are relentlessly high grade cuts of loopy tribal techno, late ‘90s style, slotting somewhere between styles then explored by Jeff Mills, Regis and Richie Hawtin, who famously used a Grain tune in ‘Decks, EFX & 909’, while the B-side total gems of secretive ‘90s order of Chain Reaction-esque dub experimentation, and then there’s B3 - a piss-yer-pants funny recording of Arthur trolling a radio phone-in as a gammon, with the eternal line “a place to snog yer gran”.
