Boomkat Product Review:
Dark and sickly beat driven industrial music from Akatombo. To date, the Scottish Ex-pat now living in Japan, has released one album on Wire frontman Colin Newman's Swim label over 6 years ago, but returns with a set of oppressively dark and alluring cold-wave sounds attracting the attention of Mary-Anne Hobbs and Simon Reynolds. The sounds within are exotically urbane, from the Clubroot-alike opener 'Friend For Hire', to the sensuous darkness of 'Pragmatism' or Ben Frost styled industrial drone soul on 'Cypher', this is a sophisticated and immersive experience. For lovers of sinister Anime, Japanese Sci-fi and lonely noise.
