The second of two new EPs featuring remixes of Throwing Snow tracks originally released on Alex Nut’s Ho_tep label. Mr Beatnick's dub takes 'Cronos' into low-slung hip-hop territory, with scuffed breakbeat, buzzing bass and some nice jagged vocal edits. Greymatter really aces it with his ‘Un Vingt Version’, Pantha Du Prince-esque belltones clustered around a stripped steppers' house riddim. Isola Dusk’s take on the same tune breaks down and rearranges the drums inna tricksy, woody stop-start style a la Peverelist or Felix K / Hidden Hawaii. The gradual addition of teasing vocal strains, organ drones and a gorgeously melodic, jabbing bassline make for a truly captivating production (hell, even the wanky new jack guitar twanging is well-judged). Arrowstothesky brings some welcome ruffage to the table, foregrounding distorted, righteously ravey bass and Funky syncopation, but doesn't lose sight of the source material's sensuousness. You can definitely see this working its way into Pearson Sound and Joy O's sets if it isn't there already. Top.
