Boomkat Product Review:
London R&B hybridist George Riley eyes the club on 'Un/limited Love', singing sweetly over taut dnb, blunted East Coast club and bumpy electro. Features production from Actress, Loraine James, Hudson Mohawke, Nick Sylvester and John FM.
Riley's got pipes, for sure, and seems to have an ear for beats that place her firmly on R&B's most experimental fringes. The big draw here is 'Star', a collaboration with Actress that spreads Riley's Kelis-like chatter over Darren Cunningham's glassy backdrop, like a vintage grime instrumental pitched for the fuckery. The HudMo-produced 'S e x' is less interesting and far more predictable, but opener 'Lust' brings in some haunted textures from Loraine James, and the John FM-produced 'Skin' is a low-key banger, using an unmistakable East Coast kick pattern and spiking it with swinging, bit-reduced clangs. It's on the upbeat moments when Riley sounds most at ease, taking her sugar-sweet coo from the bedroom to the dancefloor.
