Boomkat Product Review:
To the delight of his massive fanbase, Amon Tobin drops his latest full length album in collaboration with Double Click and featuring Sway on a credential raising slew of killer vocal performances. The most surprising feature of this album is the dominance of Sway on seven of the set's twelve cuts, gelling in an unlikely but highly effective force with Tobin and Double Click's crushing darkside riddims. Tracks like 'Two Fingers' sound like Various Production on a rampage with full blooded synthline futurism and a grungy guitar refrain meshing with hardstepped beats and Sway's urgent but controlled delivery elevating this way above the crowd of darker-then-thou dubstep heads. Those looking for an instrumental version of Tobin's heavyweight beat manipulations need look no further than 'Keman Rhythm' with Mid-eastern string samples clashing with unruly rave bass and fluid percussion, but even the hardcore Tobin heads wil have to admit the best tracks are those featuring vocals. Take 'Jewels & Gems' with Sway on a conscious political tip over Indian string samples and lush exotic percussion, and definitely not forgetting the female input from Cecile with the wicked 'Bad Girl's spooky bashment, or Ms Jade's intimately sensuous lyrics on the industrial R'n'B heavyweight 'Doing My Job'. This is a coherant and well realised project from all involved and should hugely appeal to their collective fans, plus any Boxcutter, Shuttle or The Bug fans.
