Boomkat Product Review:
Building on the acclaim surrounding her debut 12" and feverish live shows, Mim Suleiman returns with a juicy album of Afrobeat and contemporary disco hybrids produced by the notorious Maurice Fulton. Mim sings her lyrics in both her native Swahili and English, with detours into Fula, but no matter what tongue she chooses, it's always delivered with a big heart. The production from Fulton is heavenly too, matching Mim to Afrobeat disco on 'Hebu', or futuristic synthpop in 'Mpezi', dark and tribal slow house on 'Nyuli' and the electro-boogie of 'Mingi'. Heck, she even kills a Dirtbombs style garage soul joint on 'Haraka Haileti Baraka'! We're a little taken aback by this album and thoroughly recommend it to fans of fascinating, futuristic Afro dance music everywhere!
