Boomkat Product Review:
Techno legend Sleeparchive slinks out his debut album proper only 16 years after starting one of minimal techno’s most prized projects.
Master of his craft, Roger Semsroth aka Sleeparchive showcases the full but fine spectrum of his sound across ‘Trust’, which follows from a string of self-released digital albums since 2018 and armfuls of classic 12”s as his first official album proper, via Berlin techno powerhouse Tresor.
Purist to the letter, but mutable with it, Sleeparchive’s sounds veers between classic Brummie techno in ‘Needle’ and ‘Peccant’, to a deep Millsian bleep mission on ‘Glass’, and plain evil bruxism with ‘Concrete’, before tilting up the tempo with ‘Dust’, while the bittersweet ‘Leave’ could be heard as a nod to key influence from Mika Vainio’s seminal Ø project, and the pill belly electricity of those strings and thizzing hi-hats in ’Trust’ is just pure nEuro techno drama of an archetypal kind that’s been pumping since the mid ‘90s. Pure class in effect, basically.
