Boomkat Product Review:
The latest Ellen Allien 12” comes complete with remixes from Kid 606, Apparat, Anthony Rother and Raz O’Hara. The Kid kicks off with a crunchy and dirty mess of a mix, keeping the vocals but not in their original form, ripping the the track up to deliver what might be a 4/4 track with the dirt obscuring nearly all the the melody and the subtle breakbeats. Moving swiftly to the Anthony Rother mix which is the highlight of the 12”, a fat and analogue electro mix paves the way, turning the track into a bassline monster, and keeping in form with his ‘Little Computer People’ highlight, he pulls the same polished finish off, and that bassline doeesnt leave you alone! Kitty Yo singer/ songwriter Raz O’Hara drops an interesting and broken up version, utilising a strong melodic line and alternating between beats and ambience its a well produced slice of electronics that sits well with the Rother Mix and showcases the electronic sides of Raz’s style. Lastly Ellen’s labelmate and fella Apparat takes the reins and delivers a broken electro number that retains heavy beats and a stripped background, a top groove that works away underneath while Ellen’s vocals get lifted around the track. Also an accapella of sorts has been tagged on to the end for all you mixmasters out there.
