Boomkat Product Review:
One of OPN's early releases, 'Transmat Memories' was released on the brilliantly curated Belgian label, Taped Sounds, back in 2008. Manning his polysynths, Daniel Lopatin guides us through some of his lushest material, a number of which were included on his 'Rifts' compendium. 'Terminator Lake' delivers a threatening opener, all low lying bass drones and Carpenter-esque motifs over the top. Meanwhile 'I'm Still Alive' is a prickly thrust of chaotic noise textures and then there's the foreboding Wolf Eyes-ish drones of 'Bad Guy Evacuation' or the dramatic episode of 'Undercover Firefighter' to deal with. Most crucially however, this release features the alchemical arpeggios of 'Hyperdawn', one of his most treasured classics and the sort of track you'd play to someone who'd never heard of OPN before. Essential.
