Plumbing the depths of dank bassbin sound design, Bristol’s Adam Winchester takes it right down there on Mønic’s Osiris Music UK
An OG of his city’s dubstep and post-dubstep sounds, Winchester was behind he Wedge and Bleeker monikers a decade ago, which gives some hint of where his current style lies. Diving bell donned and lead boots on, it feels like he’s trawling Bristol harbour for remnants of dubstep’s corpse, glints of sacrificed statues appearing thru the murk beside bodies of petrified sound boys and trustafarians.
Crackling comms from dark garage percolate the silt on ‘Low Rise’ and the skeletons of halfstep klang on ‘Wires Cit the Sky’, descending to a 10 minute echo of the harbour’s murkiest histories in ‘Trailing Remnants’. He hits Mick Harris levels of subbass crankiness on ‘Antenna’, and slithers the sides of stone walls on ‘Swarm’ into the skanky bop ‘False Red.’
