Boomkat Product Review:
Coming in quick succession after his ace 'The Only Way To Win Is Not To Play The Game' 12" for Look Long records a few weeks back, Donnacha Costello reapears on the label with two slender and lithe deep housers backed with an esoteric downbeat experiment. It's quite clear that this fella knows how craft achingly lush synthlines as heard on 'Gatsby', an authentically late-night deep house mover with shades of Chi-town deities Ron Trent or Larry Heard style keys mixed with a plush European sensibility inherited from the likes of DJ Koze or Cassy. Next up, 'Fathoms Deep' took the words right out of our fingers with a sublime reduction of house styles leaving behind only traces of synthline afterthoughts and fixed on a slowly shifting sequence of cloud-like chords over neatly raw 909 rhythms. One for the deepest cats for sure. 'Baritone' rounds off a lush EP with a downbeat guitar and drum machine exercise sounding like CCO's Static mixed with a lovely Shoegaze longing.
