Boomkat Product Review:
Kompakt's 15th annual round-up weighs in 24 exclusive tech-house and disco-tech trax from label stalwarts and a handful of newer names. The label veterans represent a classic German techno sound between Wolfgang Voigt a.k.a. Wassermann's brassy stepper, 'Eisen Mein Herz', and Superpitcher's beguiling mix of polka groove and indigenous pipes in 'Freiherr', whereas Michael Mayer goes somewhere ruder, grittier with the cranky tribal drums and buzzing bass synth of 'The Stickler' betraying noisier influences, and Rex The Dog jacks up a treat in 'Sicko'. From the realtively newer skool, there are highlight in Hunter's buoyant posh-trancer, 'Bermuda', as well as Dave DK's haunting 'Smukke Lyde' and the cascading disco sophistication of Dauwd's plushly effective 'Jupiter George'.
