Boomkat Product Review:
Mum return with a slab of impish, staccato but suitably wistful pop, driven by a scuffed drum loop, breathy vocals, mellow keys and limpid strings both plucked and bowed. It won't especially alienate long term fans of the band; but it's also one of their most clearly articulated bids for pop acceptance to date; you could easily be listening to a Feist or a Still Corners. 'Cranes Like Ships' is a little more playful, harking back to the band's exploratory tendencies of yore. A nice enough double-hander then, but it'll probably register as too cute for all but the gentlest of sensibilities.
