Boomkat Product Review:
The second album from Sunderland’s most ambitious indie pop group marks an impressive development from the sounds mapped-out on their debut, further exploring awkward rhythms, disjointed, interruptive instrumentation and impeccable vocal harmonies. The luscious strings and jittery time signatures of ‘Sit Tight’ make for a refreshingly experimental, eccentric reworking of the Beach Boys influences found on the first album, and the song’s beatboxed coda makes for a surprising change of tack that nonetheless somehow fits in with the band’s singular brand of ambitious ADD-inspired pop. Recent single, ‘A House Is Not A Home’ is an impressive, fractured retake on American FM rock sensibilities whose winsome melodies all but mask the sheer despondence of the lyrics, which seem to run with the theme of disconnection and isolation throughout the album. An impressive second album from Field Music that marks notable development from their first on all fronts: writing, arrangement and production. Excellent stuff.
