Boomkat Product Review:
On the cover of this album we are treated to the sight of a Finnish-looking fellow (most probably Keuhkot himself?) standing naked outside a petrol station holding a television aerial... or at least that's what I hope it is. As you can probably imagine the album inside this package is mad as a bag of spanners, totally and utterly tapped. I think the most obvious comparison I can pull out is Captain Beefheart, or maybe Zappa at a push. There are definitely shards of Trout Mask Replica buzzing around the decomposing corpse of 'Toimintatapoja Olioille'; detuned instruments, very worrying vocal parts (yes I know it's in Finnish, but the tone of voice says a lot) and layers of carnival-esque production. There are some albums that reek of aspirational madness, 'Keuhkot', however, is the real deal - this guy probably goes out every night with his TV aerial and wreaks havoc on the community of itinerant workers, imps and faeries in the neighbourhood. I want to believe he is the character that Mulder and Scully never managed to catch, and maybe that aerial is for communication with others like him; maybe the album is a cry for help? Whatever it is it makes for fun, if not all entirely pleasant, listening - but then it was never supposed to be a walk in the park now was it? Mad meaning good.
